Thanks to the generous support of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, I’m delighted to announce a new “augmented reality” program at Mulford Farm that interprets the history of the American Revolution in East Hampton.
Via the AR1776 App, the program tells the story of the important role that Colonel David Mulford played leading up to the Battle of Long Island in 1776 and the subsequent occupation of the region by the British. After downloading the AR1776 App from the Android or Apple app store, visitors can stroll around the Mulford Farmhouse to six engraved stones—which serve as QR codes—to experience each chapter in the Mulfords’ Revolutionary War story. Even when the farmhouse is closed, visitors can still access the program.
In addition to Mulford Farm, you can use the AR1776 App to visit sites related to the American Revolution located across Long Island, from Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn to the Shelter Island and Oysterponds Historical Societies. As we plan America’s 250 Anniversary in 2026, the AR1776 App is a great way to embark on a Revolutionary War trail.
On Sunday, May 26 at 11:30 AM, I invite you to join us for the official launch of the AR1776 App at Mulford Farm. In addition to trying out the program, you can speak with Hugh King, our Village and Town Historian who served as the narrator for the program. 360XR, the company behind the AR1776 App, created a 3D model of Hugh so when you view the program on your cellphone, he appears to be standing right in front of you. A huge thank you to Hugh for lending his likeness and providing the narration!
